Jane Gatewood is Vice Provost for Emory Global Engagement, overseeing the university’s global initiatives in research, teaching, international mobility, and partnership development. Her career spans more than two decades at the nexus of business, academe, and government diplomacy, with a focus on advancing international collaboration and institutional engagement.
Gatewood previously served as Vice Provost for Global Engagement at the University of Rochester, where she led the institution’s global strategy and initiatives. Her passion for international education is reflected in her development of comprehensive global engagement structures and multilateral partnerships supporting research, educational mobility, and economic development. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a PhD from the University of Georgia.
She has been a Fulbright-Nehru scholar in India and an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Gatewood served as a Visiting Research Editor for the Oxford English Dictionary (3rd Edition, Oxford University Press) and is the contributing editor of NAFSA’s Guide to International Partnerships (2020). She was named IIE’s Senior International Officer of the Year in 2024 and currently serves as President of the Association of International Education Administrators, a role she assumed in March 2025.
Gatewood has reviewed National Academies reports on international talent programs (2024) and foreign-funded language and culture institutes (2023) and was named one of The PIE’s “50 Voices in the Americas” for 2025.
