Faizat Badmus-Busari SJD, is an accomplished legal scholar and advocate passionate about advancing women’s rights and social justice in the Horn of Africa. In her role as Head of Programmes for the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network, she oversees a diverse range of programs aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality across the region.
Dr. Badmus-Busari earned her Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from Emory University School of Law, where she focused on the interplay between gender, law, religion, and social justice. Her scholarly work and activism are driven by an intersectional approach that recognizes the complex dimensions of women’s experiences within the context of religion and culture.
Prior to her role at SIHA, Faizat worked with various international organizations, including The Carter Center and United Nations agencies, where she led initiatives on human rights, gender equity, and community development. Her leadership at SIHA has been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships and advocating for policy changes that support the rights and welfare of women and girls.
