Emory University has established an overseas affiliate in India, Emory India Research and Education Innovation LLP (Emory India).
The Indian affiliate was established in 2019 to support Emory University’s time-honored relationships with diverse stakeholders in India and to catalyze in-country collaborative efforts to address critical challenges in India and across the globe.
The Emory India entity provides local management and support services to Emory University and serves as a central platform for channeling and supporting diverse initiatives in India that foster excellence in research, education, innovation, and capacity-building activities for Emory University.
India is emerging as a global powerhouse and an economic and intellectual hub. The service arrangement with Emory India reinforces Emory University’s dedication to forming sustainable and impactful scholarly and cultural engagements in India.
As Emory India’s Country Director, Dr. Singla drives Emory India's support for the efforts of the Emory Vaccine Center and related partners at Emory School of Medicine in strengthening and expanding Emory’s research engagement in India.
Dr. Singla leverages his extensive international training and experience in life sciences and its related aspects of business, management, marketing, communication, law, and finance to develop and implement Emory India’s operational plans.
Dr. Singla’s activities are geared toward establishing a diverse partner network across academia, industry, government, international agencies, and civil society to support and conduct collaborative research activities. Specific areas of focus include improving human health by developing the next generation of innovative and affordable solutions including new vaccines and immune-therapies, strengthening public health systems in the region, and related capacity-building to develop researchers and innovative leaders.
Nikhil Singla, PhD
Dr Singla completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, India; Master’s in Natural Science from University of Cambridge, UK; and PhD in Chemical Biology from Cornell University, USA.
He was a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow with the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research in Boston and thereafter worked in the Intellectual Property Group of a Boston law firm. In India, as part of the senior management team of an international development sector organization, his work was focused on advancing and strengthening the research and innovation space in the country.
