Track the evolution of Emory's global strategy

Emory's global strategy is a living document, designed to be flexible and to take advantage of new opportunities. Highlights of its evolution and implementation from Fall 2014 through Spring 2016 are chronicled below.

Phase I highlights

Accomplished

  • 2.3.3 Global Services was established in Fall 2014. Global Services is a staffed function within GSI that assists faculty and staff who encounter questions and issues related to their international work, including conducting research abroad, hosting international scholars, and planning global projects. The related Global Program Support web resource, a collaboration between the Emory Global Health Institute and GSI, launched in Spring 2014 and was integrated into the updated global communications center in Spring 2016.
  • 3.2.1 - The Office of International Affairs was re-branded as the Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives in early 2015 to more closely reflect the office’s mission and the scope of its work.
  • 2.1.1 - Emory signed agreements with strategic partners in priority locations. Examples include Hanban (the Confucius Institute headquarters) and Nanjing University in China, Fulbright Brasil and FAPESP (the Sao Pãulo Research Foundation) in Brazil, Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, and Yonsei University in South Korea.
  • 2.2.1 - GSI established a Global Fellowship Support resource to strengthen connections with funding agencies that support direct faculty exchanges and to provide a point of contact for faculty interested in international research and teaching experiences. This new resource was introduced through a series of Fulbright workshops in Spring 2015 and continues with staffed support in GSI.
  • 3.1.1 – The Brazil Initiative was launched through the Halle Institute in October 2015.
  • 3.2.2 - In Spring 2016, GSI launched a new website and global communications center to better promote the university's international activities.

Progressed

  • 1.1.1 & 1.1.3 - GSI initiated conversations, created concept papers, and explored development options for the creation of a Global Scholars Program and a Global Center.
  • 2.3.1 – GSI staff took inventory of Emory’s global engagement, including faculty surveys for priority countries and review of international agreements.
  • 3.1.1 – The India Initiative is underway with identification of local strategic partners a priority.
