International Outreach Award

The International Outreach Award was created in 2012 to recognize professional staff who have made significant contributions to Emory’s internationalization through the programs, schools, and units in which they serve, and who also extend Emory's reputation by contributing their expertise to international professional networks in their respective fields of research, teaching, and higher education.

2020-21 Recipient: Levin Arnsperger

As the Associate Director for English Language Learning in the Writing Center, Dr. Levin Arnsperger, 13G, works in Emory College’s English Language Learning (ELL) Program and the Emory Writing Center. For the past six years, he has taught writing and communication classes for non-native speakers of English. He has hired, mentored, and trained tutors – first by heading the ESL Tutoring Service until 2019, and since then in his new position with the Writing Center where he also leads community engagement efforts. Levin has developed and run workshops and trainings for staff, faculty, and graduate instructors to help them more effectively communicate with and teach international students at Emory. He has conducted research on various topics, including the journey of Chinese high school students to U.S. colleges, and his research has resulted in publications and numerous conference presentations. Additionally, he has formed strong connections with ELL support staff across Emory, served as a faculty-in-residence on Clairmont Campus from 2016-2020, and visited primary and secondary schools in China during several visits.
