Nomination criteria for the International Awards
Marion V. Creekmore Award for Internationalization
The Marion V. Creekmore Award, established by the generous gift of Claus M. Halle, honors the work of Ambassador Marion V. Creekmore, who served as Emory University's first Vice Provost for International Affairs and as Director of The Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning. The award is given each year to an Emory faculty member who excels in the advancement of the University's commitment to internationalization. In keeping with the spirit of Ambassador Creekmore's work, the award seeks to recognize those who:
- In their teaching, scholarship, or work for the university significantly advance understanding of international and global issues at Emory.
- Concretely promote the recognition of Emory University in other countries of the world, carrying abroad examples of the work of Emory's community of scholars or of Emory's engagement with global issues.
- Give extraordinarily of their time and energy to organize or promote international events, visitors, or other cultural exchanges at Emory.
- Create new ideas, structures, procedures, or products that promise to eliminate international inequalities, to promote global cooperation, or to foster respect for human dignity throughout the world.
Recipients of the award are generally full-time Emory faculty. They are chosen by a selection committee composed of previous Creekmore Award recipients. Nominations remain in the pool for two years, though letters refreshing the nomination are welcomed.
Sheth Distinguished International Alumni Award
The Sheth Distinguished International Alumni Award, established in 2002 by the generous gift of Madhu and Jagdish Sheth, Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing, recognizes Emory University's international alumni who have distinguished themselves in service to universities, governments, private sector firms, and/or non-governmental organizations. Selection criteria for the Sheth Award include the following:
- The nominee should be an international alumni.
- The nominee must be highly distinguished in his/her business, profession, or life's work, either internationally or nationally in his/her home country.
- The nominee must be of such stature and fame that students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Emory University will take pride in and be inspired by his/her recognition.
- The nominee must be an individual who has helped his/her country or the world population by outstanding contributions to humanity, science, art, or human welfare.
- The nominee must be an individual who in deed or in action reflects the importance of his/her education at Emory University.
Recipients of the award are chosen by a selection committee appointed and chaired by the Vice Provost for Global Strategy and Initiatives. Nominations remain in the pool for two years, though letters refreshing the nomination are welcomed.
International Outreach Award
The International Outreach Award was created in 2012 to recognize Emory University professional staff who:
- Have made significant contributions to Emory's internationalization through the programs, schools, and units in which they serve.
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity in establishing new programming, procedures, or structures that foster international engagement.
- Extend Emory's reputation by contributing their expertise to international professional networks in their respective field.
- Devote significant time and energy to facilitating cultural exchange or international understanding.
Recipients of the award are chosen by a selection committee appointed by the Vice Provost for Global Strategy and Initiatives. Nominations remain in the pool for two years, though letters refreshing the nomination are welcomed.
